This is the June 2009 Dulles District Planning Update. It has been a couple of very busy months on the Planning Commission.

MS-5
I am very pleased to announce that the Planning Commission recommended approval for the new Middle School-5 site on Braddock Road on June 18. It was so nice to have widespread community support for this school site.

Transportation Planning
The Planning Commission (PC) has been going through the 1,200+ comments that we have received on the draft Countywide Transportation Plan (CTP) and map from public input sessions, stakeholder meetings, email and the County’s CTP website. If you provided input to us, thank you.

I am currently working on a list of priority bike routes for the plan. If you have any suggestions please let me know. My initial suggestions are Loudoun County Parkway, Tall Cedars Parkway, and Gum Spring Road for our District.

For the past 3 or 4 weeks, the Commission has been conducting straw votes on proposed changes to the draft CTP map and plan. We agreed to remove New Road, Route 860 extended, Route 860 relocated, and Route 648 relocated from the draft CTP map. The Commission also agreed to limit the number of lanes on Braddock Road between Route 15 and Lenah Loop Road to 2 lanes, Gum Spring Road (between Braddock and Route 50) to 4 lanes, Tall Cedars Parkway to 4 lanes, and Loudoun County Pkwy to 6 lanes. We have received a number of emails from residents who are concerned about the number of highway lanes being proposed through residential neighborhoods.

I have requested additional information from staff on the residential unit, density, employment data, commuting pattern and growth assumptions that were used in the transportation model to justify the number of new roads being proposed in the Transition Area. My concern is that the road grid being proposed by staff here is not warranted or consistent with the low density residential that is called for in the County’s Comprehensive Plan.

I have requested that the County postpone the proposed July CTP  Planning Commission public hearing until such time as the Planning Commission can review the modeling data and assumptions, complete a comprehensive review of the plan, consult with surrounding jurisdictions and VDOT, and can evaluate the proposed transportation network around the future metro stations in more detail.

I want to make sure that the draft CTP that goes to the Board of Supervisors for final review is one that Dulles District residents and businesses have contributed to and support.

Sincerely,
Sandra Chaloux,
Dulles District Planning Commissioner

Loudoun County Public Schools, MS5

Published by admin under Uncategorized

Loudoun County Public Schools has sent notification to Lenah Run regarding SPEX 2009-0017 and CMPT 2009-0004, which is about building a middle school in the South Riding area at the corner of Braddock Rd and Ticonderoga Rd.  A community information meeting to review the proposed Dulles South Middle School (MS-5), will be held on June 4, 2009 in the Mercer Middle School auditorium, 42149 Greenstone Dr, Aldie, at 6:30 PM.  This is the new location that is being selected and voted on by the Planning Commission, since the original plan for the school to be on Lenah Rd, was defeated.  If you are interested in finding out information on this plan, please attend the community meeting.

Volunteers needed for water usage study

Published by admin under Uncategorized

Loudoun Water recently sent all residents of community well water systems a notice of cancellation of a scheduled meeting this April 29th.  This meeting was in conjunction with the proposed rate increase for excess water used in well water supplied communities primarily affecting the grass growing months.  This rate increase has now been held off at least through this summer.  Loudoun Water is undertaking additional study inputs from professionals and in an effort to gain concerned resident input, would like to have respresentation from each community served by well water for a panel they are putting together.  The information is in their letter you received.  This is an opportunity for any resident who would like to contribute constructive input and help with potential alternative solutions for use of water on well supplied communities.  This is a real concern, as not only do we depend on having enough water to perform normal functions in our homes, but it is also a source of fire protection for water to our hydrants.  If you have an interest to serve in this capacity for the next few months, please contact your Board of Directors, bod@lenahrun.net.

Neighborhood Watch Program

Published by admin under Uncategorized

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s office had contacted the BOD prior to this robbery to see if we would be interested in a Neighborhood Watch.   They were told that we would be and invited them to present to the community at the next BoD meeting on May 19 at the Arcola Firehouse, as this could easily be accomodated at that time and residents already are aware of those dates with the previous letter from PMP on date changes. Once we get additional informtion from the sheriff’s office, our management company, PMP, will be making a special mailing to each house to ensure that everyone gets the word and opportunity to attend.  You will see this same pre-annoucement information in the Communicator.
