Message from BoS Chairman on needing community help

Published by admin under Uncategorized

Dear Friend,

My fellow citizens, please take the time to read this as we need your help!

In Governor Kaine’s  FY11 fiscal budget proposal he recommended that the Local Composite Index (LCI) biennial adjustment be frozen for the 2011 fiscal year budget.  The LCI is the measure used to determine state and local shares of K-12 funding in Virginia. The formula uses data (growth in student population, local income, retail sales and property values) to determine a locality’s ability to pay for its schools. It is part of the routine distribution for education funding that occurs every two years.  While imperfect, the LCI has been Virginia’s accepted measure of local ability to pay for k-12 education for many years!

Why do we need your help? This arbitrary freeze will mean a loss to Loudoun County of $34,356,421!

This year the LCI adjustment, if not frozen, would help Loudoun County at a time when we have the largest growing student population in the Commonwealth.   Loudoun School’s will see an increased enrollment of 3,351 students.  Yet, if the LCI is frozen then Virginia Beach becomes the top recipient by getting an additional $14,803,612 at a time when their school system will see a reduction of 524 students.

If that was not enough, as a region, Northern Virginia collectively will lose $122,400,000 in state funding, while adding 10,263 new students. At the same time, school divisions benefiting under the proposed freeze will receive an additional $114,000,000 while collectively educating a projected 2,300 fewer students. This is hardly fair and is totally unacceptable!

While the Loudoun Board of Supervisors, the School Board, our counterparts in the region, and our state delegation are working on this issue, we need your help NOW!

Please take a few minutes to contact the Governor’s office by going to the following link to Governor McDonnell’s online e-mail form, http://www.governor.virginia.gov/TheAdministration/contactGovernor.cfm  or by calling 804-786-2211 and tell the Governor that the arbitrary freeze on the Local Composite Index is wrong and that Richmond needs to honor this long standing funding formula!

Also, please pass this message along to your family, friends and neighbors and ask them to do the same. We cannot allow this to happen!

Thank you and God Bless,

Scott K. York
Chairman,
Loudoun County Board of Supervisors

Covenants policy for Amerigas tank removal

Published by admin under Covenants Committee

Lenah Run Residents,

As many of you know, over the past several months, members of our community have been working with the HoltzmanPropane company to offer an alternative to Amerigas.  A number of homeowners are planning to switch companies in the very near future.  As part of this process, the Amerigas owned propane tanks will be excavated, drained and made ready for pick-up.  However, Amerigas has 30 days to remove the old propane tanks.  Therefore, we are anticipating a number of propane tanks will be sitting on homeowner’s property for up to a month.  For safety reasons, please avoid placing the tanks on or near the street.  The ideal location is at the back of the driveway or nearby in the side yard.  The Covenants Committee will not issue violations to homeowners during this period, as long as they are removed within 45 days.  Since it will be the homeowner’s responsibility to call Amerigas and pay the removal fee, please do not delay once the tank is readied for removal.

Thank you,

Mick McDowell

Snow Removal on PAEs (Pipestems)

Published by admin under Uncategorized

Our management company has informed us that our contracted contractor’s equipment is non-operational.  Our management agent is securing the services of another plowing company.  Because of their other contracted commitments, unfortunately Lenah will be later in the day, but our managing agent is working to see if we can get someone earlier.  We have been informed that VDOT has started plowing services in Lenah on the VDOT roads in the community.  Please bear with the situtation and if at all possible, please stay in and enjoy the beautiful scene.  Thanks for your understanding.

AmeriGas Pricing - NEW

Published by admin under Uncategorized

AmeriGas has provided a letter to the Association offering a price to all residents of Lenah that is based on a profit margin of $0.60 per gallon added to their per gallon propane cost.  This is significantly lower than previous pricing.  This price is effective through October 31, 2010 and will be reviewed annually by AmeriGas.  AmeriGas is also willing to adjust any invoices for propane that was delivered after September 2009 to the new price.  To take advantage of this price, you should call AmeriGas at 800-222-0808 and tell them you are a Lenah Run resident and want to sign up for the new price, plus applicable adjustment for previous delivery.  Since all contracts are between AmeriGas and each resident, their legal requirement is that each resident needs to call to authorize the change to their account.

This pricing methodology will keep our prices more stable and will only change based on the cost of propane to AmeriGas.

Meeting to discuss elementary school boundary change proposal ~ MONDAY, NOV 23!

Published by admin under Community News

On November 10th, Loudoun County Public Schools recommended shifting Lenah Run students from Arcola Elementary to the new ES-20, under construction on Gum Springs Road.  This will be the fourth elementary school move in the past eight years.  Of the 40 alternatives developed by the county, this was the only proposal that impacted Lenah Run.  South Riding residents, who live closer to ES-20, will remain at their current schools.  The school was built to alleviate overcrowding at the South Riding schools.

There is a community input session where the public may speak on whether they oppose or support the recommendation.  The meeting is Monday, Nov 23 at 6:30 PM at the following location:

21000 Education Court
Ashburn 20148

People may also call 571.252.1050 to sign up to be a speaker. You can also sign up at the meeting.  They will get two minutes to speak. You may also email lcpsplan@loudoun.k12.va.us to voice your opinion.

The decison on the boundaries will be made on December 8th.
